I recommend cross training, from yoga, Pilates,

Ballet, Ballroom, Aerobics, Weights, Cardio,

and Nutrition, to achieve optimum fitness.

Even a few classes in each will improve your technique.

I believe in 15 minute morning warm-ups,

and exercising at least 2x week for 30 minutes...

I think a one week break at least 2x year is healthy,

the body needs rest.

When I go to the gym Its usually for 1.5hours...

I have a lifetime membership at Bally's,

my mom bought it for me in the 80's...

I still join other gyms for 3 months each year.

I was a member of Memorial for 2 years, FIU, BCC,

LAfit, and like to go with friends on day passes to their gym.

Some fun day pass places, are sheridan on the beach,

equinox sobe, golds, lady's only gyms, curves, etc..

for certifications try ace, aafa, candycolby's, etc..

Dancing

From ballet to swing, dancing is enjoyed and revered by many cultures.

It is also a great way to get in shape aerobically, strengthen muscles and relieve stress.

The best part of all: everyone, regardless of body type or ability, can enjoy and reap the health benefits of dancing.

You can dance in your room, at a club or even while sitting in a chair.

To maximize the health benefits derived from dancing, put your whole body and soul into it for at least 20 minutes.

Continuing the activity for longer periods will also increase the number of calories you burn.

Muscles Used:

Depending on what type of dance you choose you can work major muscle groups in your back, legs, buttocks and calves.

Dancing improves muscle endurance as well as strength and is a great way to maintain cardiovascular fitness.

Tips to Improve Your Dancing:

bulletBreathe In and Out Deeply at all times. Do not hold your breath.
bulletWarm up by walking in place for a few minutes.
bulletFollow that by stretching muscles in your legs, back and arms.
bulletKeep your abdominal muscles tight, back straight, chin up, shoulders down.
bulletLet your body loosen up and move to the music, improvise, freeform.
bulletOptimize your dancing potential by enrolling in an individual or group dance lesson.
bulletBy following the guidance of an experienced instructor you can learn to utilize your muscles properly with less risk of muscular or skeletal injuries.
bullet

How Not to Get Hurt:

bulletEnsure that your dance surface is clean of debris. Remove rugs, toys and shoes.
bulletMove objects that you could bump with your legs or back.
bulletStretch gently and warm up prior to and after dancing to avoid pulling any muscles.
bulletKeep your back straight and abdominals tight to avoid back injury.
bulletStop or slow down if you feel dizzy, lightheaded, fatigued, sore or pain.
bulletLearn how to head spot in turns, to avoid dizzy blurred vision. (ballet)
bulletUse caution when flexing the knees, keep knees behind ankle alignment.
bulletAlways keep water with you and stop to enjoy a cool 8oz. drink every 20 minutes.
bulletReplenish your fuel, drink up. Maintain steady Blood sugar, with sports drinks or fruit.
bullet

Essential Equipment:

bulletComfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
bulletWell-fitting socks that keep moisture away from the skin to prevent skin soreness.
bulletComfortable sneakers or dancing shoes.
bulletYour favorite music.
bulletLots of water.
bulletSmile, a serious focused yet positive attitude.
